Equation of Motion

When we combine all forces in both the horizontal and the vertical, we obtain a general expression that governs motion in the atmosphere. It is called the Equation of Motion.

This equation is very important in that all expressions used in numerical models to simulate atmospheric motion are derived from this equation. It is important, therefore, to understand the relationships of all forces to each other.
