Session Objectives
Session 9: Atmospheric Models
Upon completion of this session, a participant should be able to do the following:
- Describe the basic goal of numerical modeling.
- Explain why equations used in modeling must be approximated.
- Explain the basic concepts behind the following types of models:
- diagnostic
- prognostic
- Lagrangian
- Eularian
- barotropic
- baroclinic
- Gaussian plume and Gaussian puff
- plume-in-grid.
- Describe the importance of accounting for surface and grid factors in meteorological models.
