Session Objectives

Session 5: Scales of Motion

Upon completion of this session, a participant should be able to do the following:
  1. Describe motions that occur on the following scales:

  2. Describe the difference between the following air masses:

  3. Describe the general flow around high and low pressure systems.

  4. Describe the formation of a thermal circulation.

  5. Describe the difference between molecular and eddy viscosity. State which one has a greater influence on atmospheric motion and why.

  6. Explain the use of grids in atmospheric modeling.
